Good morning. Five things moved money this week. Each one takes less than a minute to read.

1. Rates held, again

The central bank kept its main rate at 4.25% for the third meeting in a row. Mortgage offers barely moved. If you are on a tracker, nothing changes this month.

2. Rents cooled in big cities

New leases in the ten largest cities rose 1.8% over the year, the slowest pace since 2021. Renewals still climb faster, so ask before you sign.

3. Savers get a small win

Three online banks now pay above 4% on easy-access savings. On $10,000 that is about $400 a year, up from almost nothing two years ago.

4. Fuel is down at the pump

Average gas prices fell 11 cents in a month. Good news for commuters, and a small drag on the energy stocks in many pension funds.

5. One number to know: 31

Thirty-one percent of readers in our poll have no emergency fund. Our guide on building one with $25 a week is in the archive.

We cut every item until it fits a bus ride. If it takes longer, it is not news.
