Hands at work over a bench of leather pieces and hand tools

Hi Sam, I made my first belt at the kitchen table in 2014. I was proud of it for about a month, until the stitching gave out on a train platform and my trousers nearly followed. That is the honest start of Hobnail Leather.

I spent the next year learning why it failed: cheap thread, thin hide, and too much hurry. So we now cut every piece from full grain hide and stitch the parts that take strain by hand. It is slower, and some weeks we run out. I would rather tell you that than rush one out the door.

With thanks,

Tomas Reyes
