About newsletter emails

A newsletter is the email people choose to read. It comes on a regular day, it has a familiar look, and it gives them something useful: news, ideas, links, or a good story.

The hard part is layout. A newsletter often has several pieces, and each one needs to be easy to scan. Our newsletter templates use a clear order: a header with the issue name and date, one main story with an image, a few shorter items, and a footer. Headings are large, text blocks are short, and every story has one link, so readers can jump to what they care about.

Keep the same template from issue to issue. Readers learn where things are, and your newsletter starts to feel like a habit. Change the hero image and the stories, not the frame.

Each template is built with tables and inline CSS and stacks into one column on phones. Copy the HTML for free, or export it with a free account.

Questions

How often should I send a newsletter?

As often as you can keep it good. Weekly or monthly both work. A steady day and time matter more than a high number.

How many stories should one issue have?

One main story and two to four short ones is a good size. More than that and people stop scrolling.

Will images show in every inbox?

Most clients show them, but some block images until the reader allows them. Our templates use alt text and real text for headings, so the email still reads well without images.
